Prom 2 0 1 4

Last weekend, I had the wonderful opportunity to accompany one of my closest friends to her Senior prom! Despite the fact that I'll be turning 20 later this year, and I graduated high school two years ago... I had a complete blast and am so glad she asked me to be her date! Not to mention, this was actually my first time ever attending prom and (not) being the photographer! #homeschooledprobs

We definitely had our fun dancing the night away, even if we were acting and looking like complete fools, neither of us seemed to care! I am so blessed to have a best friend whose just as odd as myself and truly embraces the idea of "Be who YOU are" Thank you, Sarah! I had a great time and cannot wait for the many more memories we'll share together throughout the rest of our lives!

Chambana local!

Introducing Minneapolis-based dream-pop/psychedelic duo Har Di Har and Champaign-Urbana's local pop-alternative band Emily Otnes and the Weekdays

Spring is always a refreshing time of year. It's filled with the fading of winter and the incoming ray's of sunshine, revealing a summer which lies somewhere beneath the sprouting grounds of fresh green grass. The season's motto seems to almost religiously go along with the phrase "Out with the old, and in with the new." And overall, spring is meant for new beginning's, right? As I rang in the new year of 2014, I also had many new beginnings. A new semester in college, a promotion in my job, and even new friendships were blossomed. Alongside these exciting - though sometimes stressful - beginnings, I've also have had many new discoveries! One of the most exciting being the discovery of Chambana's local music scene!

Throughout the semester I've begun to explore what the local music scene has to offer and have been completely amazed! Discovering bands both big & small, I've been introduced to countless new bands that I've quickly grown to love. Of course, one of my favorite's has to be Emily Otnes and the Weeekdays - the band featured throughout the majority of these photos. Alongside being extremely talented (both as individual musicians as well as a band together) I've also had the opportunity to become friends with a couple of the members. Perhaps this makes me a little biased, but I promise... It's still worth a listen!

I'm looking forward to future shows with these bands, along with many others!
Here's to the new beginning's of spring, and a (soon to be) kick off of summer!

Thanks for putting on such a great show, everyone!
Until next time,

"Syksy" meaning 'autumn' in Finnish

"Syksy"  meaning 'autumn' in finnish.
My favorite time of year.
Crisp, autumn mornings.
Sun shining through the leaves, leaving a hue of gold.
The sound of your feet walking down the road. Crunching.
Again, crisp.

// this is a very small piece from something I wrote in English class. We have this exercise that we've done at the beginning of every class, where we get a topic or sentence and then have to write about it non-stop without edits for 5 minutes. Some days, I get nothing good... others, I'm surprised by the ease I find in writing and often I've been looking back at these writings and enjoying my thoughts.

As I'm sure you've noticed, for any of those who actually might be reading this (if there is even any), I have taken a very long break from blogging. Actually, I've barely blogged at all since my return home to the U.S.A. As I was told by my Rotarians, and many former exchange students, adjusting back home would be a challenge and almost like it's another exchange in itself... and sure enough, it's been just that! Since being home I have gone through a range of emotions, wanted certain things & learned I didn't want others, and have truly began to start my life over again. I got a new job, bought a new car, and started my first semester at a local community college. I've started learning my 3rd language (Spanish) and have began to learn that paying bills and having much responsibility, financial and other related, both leaves you as a broke college student and one who lacks a consistent sleep schedule. Despite all of this though, I have already learned so many new things and I feel as though I'm transforming yet again, into a new person.. only this time, I'm entering the adult world. Despite the challenges that having such responsibility's that I might face, I've really enjoyed the journey thus far. I've re-connected with old friends and have learned how to make new ones. I'm focusing on studies and building friendships now... and I'm really happy to say that I've been rather active in creating art! I am proud of a lot of the images I have produced in the last few months, and most of all cherish the memories that are held behind the photographs.

As for now, I do not have any promises that I'll be up and running constantly in the blogging world, as I'm still figuring out my place in many different ways. Until then though, I think I'll go ahead and share some images that I have done lately and see what happens from there.

All my love,

xx alisa nicholle

Taking a break...

-- If you haven't noticed already, I'm taking a bit of a break from blogging... and also, a small break from photography as well (at least, not as active as normal) perhaps I'll be back in awhile. Guess we'll see. --

Translations of One's Own Thoughts

"Writing. What is it other than a bunch of worlds put together in a numerous order? Sometimes there’s thought, maybe even a specific statement.. but otherwise it’s nothing more than the mere translation of one’s mind trying to figure itself out. There’s something more though that is held behind each script, each sentence. Perhaps it’s the memories that come along with them, good and bad. It’s that longing in which you want to hold unto. Thinking as if you read something from the past, maybe the future will turn out alright. All we know though is that right now it’s the present. And with the present, you just have to live."

Feeling nostalgic tonight. Finding random writings here and there, most seem completely un-relative but yet they still tug emotion towards me in some way. //

Photoshoot: Sarah Huff

My dear friend Sarah Huff and I finally had the opportunity to hang out for an afternoon since my return from Finland! We first met for a late lunch, where we ended up talking for hours & hours catching up on all the little things we've been up to in the past year. After time had passed we decided to venture off and take some photos, as we were both eager to be out shooting together again. What started off to be just a few shots ended up becoming a ton but whenever we thought we'd be done shooting, something new came into our view and inspired us! Overall though, I was so happy to get so many good shots and it was a blast being together again -- both with the cameras, and without.
